Classic trekking peak in the Cordillera Real

The Condoriri massif consists of 13 different peaks and is a popular climbing area in Bolivia. The highest peak in the area is the Cabeza de Cóndor (5648m), it is also one of the most demanding peaks in the massif. Cabeza de Condor is also known as Condoriri and is referred to as “the Matterhorn of Bolivia”. Condoriri is also part of the Trans Cordillera trek which is a popular trek in the Cordillera Real. This one day trek give us a small taste of the Cordillera Real and we help for acclimatizing for higher mountains. We have a chance to see some wild life, small communities and the mountains up close.

Early in the morning we pick you up from your hotel and drive out to Condoriri. We first pass the city of Al Alto, one of the fastest growing cities in South America. A lot of new construct that looks half finish. Once we pass the city of Al Alto we start to have views of the Cordillera Real. After reaching the village of Palcoco we take one of the dirt roads heading up the valley towards the Condoriri group. At the end of the road we park the car and start our trek up to the base camp. The walk is on a good trail and we have great views of the Condoriri. Once we reach the Laguna Chira Khota we head left and follow a trail which takes us up to the summit of Austria peak. After reaching the summit and seeing the views of the other mountains, we head back down the valley to meet our transport back to La Paz.
