Overview

Climbing school in the Cordillera Real

The Condoriri massif consists of 13 different peaks, requiring different abilities to climb them. The highest of these peaks is the Cabeza del Cóndor at 5648m, and one of the most demanding peaks in the massif. Cabeza del Condor is also known as Condoriri and is the Matterhorn of Bolivia. This program basic introduction to mountaineering. We will have to chance to learn and practice some of the more basic to advance skills need for a safe ascent on basic to moderate climbs. We also have the chance to climb Pequeño Alpamayo (5370m). We can try the direct route for more advance climbers. If hoping to climb higher mountains in the area, this program is a good starter!

Day 1: La Paz (3600m) - Rinconada, Lago Tuni (4400m) - Condoriri Base camp (4700m)

We will pick you up from your hotel and drive up through Al Alto. Along the way we have views of the Cordillera Real. After reaching the village of Palcoco we take one of the dirt roads heading up the valley towards the Condoriri group. At the end of the road we will meet the mules. The mules will carry all the equipment up to base camp.We also start our walk up to base camp from here. The walk is on a good trail and we
have great views of the mountains in front of us. We have time to make an accent of Austria peak (5300m) either on this day or on one of the other days on the program.
3 hour drive, 1 - 2 hour trek (LD) Camping

Day 2: Condoriri Base Camp - Lower Glaciar - Condoriri Base Camp

We have an early start in the morning, where we walk to the lower glacier. First we will learn Glacier travel and Crevasse rescue. We will take a lunch pack so we can spend a full day on the glacier. At the end of the day we head back to base camp Techniques for the day

Day 3: Condoriri Base camp - Lower Glaciar - Condoriri Base Camp

Second day we head again to the lower glacier for more practice.
Head back to base camp at the end of the day.

Day 4: Condoriri - Pequeño Alpamayo (5370m) - Condoriri

An early start in the morning for our accent of Pequeño Alpamayo, after one hour of walking on a trail we reach the glacier, from here we will need to put our crampons on, and head up the glacier. First we have to climb Mt Tarija (5200m), once on the summit of Tarija we need to drop down a little way on the other side. The last 100m of climbing is good fun on a ridge. We have good views of Huayna Potosi (6088m).
Same route back down to base camp. We can try the direct route a more technical climb. We can lead the climb if we feel we have the confidence.
7 - 12 hour climb (BLD) camping

Day 5: Condoriri - Rinconada - La Paz

After breakfast, we pack up camp. We will meet the mules to bring our gear back down the valley. At the end of the valley we meet our transport back to La Paz. Drop off at hotel.
